Why should I send my quilt to a Longarm quilter?

You have carefully chosen the fabrics, you have selected the quilt pattern, you have spent your time carefully piecing the quilt top so I understand that sending your hard work to be long armed is a daunting prospect. Will it be in good hands, will you like the design, is the return (if posted) tracked at every step?

Whether you pop along to my studio or send your quilt top by post the first step will be a discussion about your quilt top and whether you have any preferences for thread colour and quilting pattern, this is the time we will discuss your likes / dislikes e.g. swirls, flowers,

geometric. Rest assured your preferences will always be a priority, I believe it is very important you like and are happy with the design, no matter how long it takes to decide on it. If you are close to Troon we can arrange an in person chat but don’t worry if you’re not close by

as all the decisions can be made via phone calls, WhatsApp and video chats.

Preparing Your Quilt Top, Wadding & Backing

At Isabel_sews we can supply wadding and backing (more on this below).

There is very little preparation required prior to submitting your quilt top to us.

To help the process we have outlined some guidelines below:-

  • Your top, wadding and backing should be submitted as separate pieces, no pre-layering, spray basting or pinning is required.
  • Please ensure your wadding and backing are at least 6 inches wider and longer than your top. So, if your quilt top measures 48 x 60 inches, your wadding and backing need to be at least 54 x 66 inches. This might seem a little excessive, however, the extra at the top and bottom is required to allow the backing to be loaded and pinned onto the Longarm frame and for the sides to be clamped to hold the backing taut.
  • Our Longarm frame is 10ft wide and can accommodate up to a king size quilt.

Wadding

We are happy to supply the wadding for your quilt. I always use a Premium wadding, pre-shrunk 80/20 mix. It is 96 inches wide and perfect for larger quilts.

Backing

We are happy to supply backing for your quilt and stock a range of Extra wide backings, measuring 108 inches, so, no need to join the pieces on the back.

Binding

Binding can be sewn onto the quilt and returned ready for you to hand sew to the back, see price list below.

We also provide a full binding service, please ask for a quote.
